8-28-09 PDF Buyer Tracking, Delivery Page Text, Navigation Tweaks, and more.

Today we have released an update to DPD that provides for several new features:

1.  PDF Buyer Tracking.

When enabled for a product PDF Buyer Tracking will automatically stamp the buyer's name, email address, and DPD transaction ID on the PDF purchased.   This will help to prevent sharing after purchase and positively identify who purchased the product.

There are a few conditions to using PDF buyer tracking, namely that the file must be a Acrobat 5 comptable PDF document that is not zipped inside another file.  For more information on the new PDF Buyer Tracking Feature please review the knowledgebase article below:

2.  Delivery Page Custom Text

An often requested customization option, DPD now has the ability to add customized text to the product delivery page the buyer sees after purchase when using the storefront cart system.   The text is set on the storefront options page for each storefront.   You can use this text to provide support information, install information, or a customzied thank you message to your customers.

This is only the first customization option being released with many more in the pipeline!

3.  Navigation Tweaks

We've upgrade the navigation on the DPD site for logged in vendors.   Now instead of seeing every option for every module you will only be presented with options for the current module.   You can still browse other module's options by clicking on the module name if you wish, but we think this makes it easier to find what you want to do related to the current area of the site (i.e. When you are in the Storefront module you are not presented with standalone product options, etc.)

4.  Archived Products

We have implemented a new archived products system that lets you permanently deactivate a no longer used product while retaining the customer and transaction information for future support.   Once a product is archived two things happen:

a.  The product's file is deleted from the DPD system and the product is deactivated
b.  The archived product is subtracted from your active product slots so it does not take up any of your subscription allocation.

To archive a product is a simple procedure-  Click on the red X in the product table beside the product you want to archive.   On the confrimation screen, read the warnings and check the box to confirm that you understand the operation can not be undone and click the scary red button.

Archived products can be reviewed by clicking the red "Archived Products" link at the top right corner of each module's product list.  Click the green "Active Products" link to go back to the active products view.

Example usage of the archived products feature might include when you want to upgrade standalone products to the new storefront system:  Once you copy your product to the storefront system using the easy upgrade button you can then archive the old standalone version and free up the product's slot on your plan.  All your old sales information will be retained for the archived product but it will not take up space on your account.
